shosenIn my mother’s view, you keep your secrets to yourself and collect the secrets of others for later use. Nothing should be shared without due consideration, and you should never admit to anything that implies impropriety.
In my father’s view, you keep things to yourself, because sharing is painful. It brings your own heartaches to the surface, and generally ends in a fight with the one who causes those aches, and the fights never lead to anything good. It’s just better for everyone to hold your own.
In the bar, you tried to keep everyone out of your business, when they all wanted to know everything there was about everyone in there. Gossip was entertainment, secrets were treasures to be shared and shared often, and really, what else was there to do on a slow day?
In the Cathedral, you tried to keep yourself from being overwhelmed by the secrets and stories of others. They would come to you with their pain, not a ll of it physical, and you tried your best to heal them in all the ways they needed without letting on that you were just human too.
In this place, I keep trying to figure out what the rules are. I think I’ve failed, each and every time.
